The Brockton Public Schools joined the Brockton Fire Department, Mayor Robert Sullivan and members of the Brockton School Committee in recognizing two Hancock students who went above and beyond to help a fellow student.
While riding the bus home from school last week, fourth grade student Jayline Mendes and fifth grade student Ann-Loika Louis-Jeune sprung into action when a second grade student suffered a cut to his head after falling from his seat. Mendes and Louis-Jeune followed the training they'd gotten during bus safety drills and hurried to the front of the bus to get the first aid kit and worked together to treat their fellow bus rider's cut.
Members of the Brockton Fire Department who responded noted the level of care and composure both girls showed, and also indicated how impressed they were by the quality of their efforts in addressing the wound.
For their actions, both students were awarded certificates of recognition by Mayor Sullivan, Fire Chief Brian Nardelli and Superintendent Priya Tahiliani.
